HUANG YULONG
ARTIST | CHINA
Huang Yulong is a contemporary Chinese artist born in 1983 in Anhui Province, whose work bridges traditional Eastern sculpture and global street culture. Trained at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, a historic center of Chinese porcelain and ceramic arts, he has developed a distinctive visual language that reflects the complexities of modern urban identity in a rapidly changing society.
Working with traditional materials such as porcelain, bronze, and copper, Huang creates sculptural figures dressed in hoodies, puffer jackets, and streetwear, drawing from contemporary youth and hip hop culture. By blending Confucian, Buddhist, and Taoist iconography with Western fashion and urban aesthetics, his work explores themes of cultural hybridity, identity, and globalization. Often resembling monks, deities, or warriors, his figures embody the tension between tradition and modern life. His work has been widely exhibited in China and internationally, including London, New York, Hong Kong, and Paris.
