ARTIST | united states of america

Onzie Deandre Norman is an American mixed-media artist based in Detroit whose practice explores Black history, cultural identity, urban environments, and the richness of everyday experience. Drawing from a background in carpentry and public art, he constructs dynamic works that merge painting, collage, wood, and found materials into layered visual narratives.

Working across portraiture, abstraction, and sculptural forms, Norman approaches each piece as a composition of stories, memories, and perspectives. His hand-built canvases and multidimensional surfaces challenge conventional formats, creating spaces where personal histories and collective experiences intersect. Rooted in both craftsmanship and cultural reflection, his work celebrates resilience, creativity, and community while honoring the complexity of Black life. Through a vibrant visual language, Norman transforms fragmented materials into powerful expressions of identity, belonging, and human connection.
